The club was founded in 1934 as EV Regensburg and played in lower level leagues until 1977, when they were promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. In 1982, they were relegated back to the lower leagues. In 1992, they were promoted back to the 2nd Bundesliga and then to the DEL in 1994.
