Thanksgiving Turkey Drop 1978 First Annual WKRP Ugly Sweatshirt
It was 1978, and the radio station WKRP in Cincinnati was about to go on the air. But before they could start transmitting, they needed to get their hands on a cool new shirt – a shirt that would help promote their brand and boost their ratings. And what better way to do that than by giving away a free turkey every day for Thanksgiving? That’s how the first annual Turkey Drop came to be.
For nearly three decades, it helped bring attention to WKRP and raised money for charity. And now, as we approach the 38th annual Turkey Drop, it’s still going strong – even more popular than ever! So if you’re looking for a fun Thanksgiving Tradition that benefits your community, look no further than the 38th annual Turkey Drop!
Background
The first annual Thanksgiving turkey drop took place on November 24th at the WKRP Ugly Sweaters Radio Station. The event was hosted by the KAOS Crew and featured over 25 turkeys being dropped from the top of WKRP’s tower. Proceeds from this event will be donated to charity.
This year’s event was a success, with many people coming out to watch the turkeys fall. The event lasted for about two hours and ended with a big celebration. Participants enjoyed food, drinks, and laughs while helping to raise money for a good cause.
We are happy to have partnered up with WKRP Ugly Sweaters Radio Station again this year to put on this great event. We hope that everyone who came out had a lot of fun and that we were able to donate money to a deserving charity. Thank you all for your support!
Lessons Learned
1. Thanksgiving is a time to spend with family and friends, and share food and stories. WKRP was founded on the principle of giving back to the community, so it only fitting that we do something for Thanksgiving.
2. We gave away 100 ugly sweaters to people in need in our community this year. This was done by collecting donated sweaters from listeners and then matching them up with those in need through our partnership with Operation Warmth Houston.
3. We also participated in a canned food drive at our station that collected clothes, toys, and other items for the Houston Food Bank.
4. Our goal for next year is to give away even more ugly sweaters and canned goods to help those who need it most during this holiday season.
Conclusion
It’s been said that a picture is worth a thousand words, and in this case, it might be even more accurate. The Thanksgiving turkey drop 1978 was one of the most memorable events WKRP ever aired. This year marks the fortieth anniversary of that momentous day when the station’s employees dropped a live Turkey off the roof of the building to celebrate Black Friday.
