What is the Stevenage Football Club?

Stevenage Football Club is an English professional football club based in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. They currently compete in League Two, the fourth tier of English football. The club was founded in 1976 and play their home games at Broadhall Way.

The club’s first ever competitive match was a 1-0 win over Watford reserves in the Hertfordshire Senior Cup. Their first league match was also a 1-0 win, this time over Dagenham in the Isthmian League First Division. The following season they finished as runners-up in the league and were promoted to the Premier Division.

In 1980, they reached the final of the FA Vase, losing 3-1 to Wealdstone. The following year they finished third in the Premier Division and were promoted to the Alliance Premier League (now the Conference National). After two seasons in the Conference, they were relegated back to the Isthmian League in 1984.

The club suffered financial problems in the early 1990s and were forced to sell their ground to Sainsbury’s supermarket chain. They moved to a new ground, Broadhall Way, in 1995. In 1998 they were relegated from the Conference to the Southern League Premier Division (now called National League South).

After winning the Southern League title in 1999-2000, they were promoted back to the Conference. In 2006, they reached the final of the FA Trophy forthe first time, losing 2-0 to Grays
