What is the Qatar World Cup?
The Qatar World Cup, which took place in November and December of 2014, was the first time that the tournament was held in a Middle Eastern country. The 32 teams competed for the title, with Brazil taking home the trophy after defeating Argentina 3-1 in the final. The Qatar World Cup was also notable for its controversial circumstances. Several top players, including Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, were not allowed to participate due to concerns about their safety.
How to Watch the Qatar World Cup 2022
Jorge Sampaoli’s men will be looking to defend their title when the Qatar World Cup kicks off in late June. However, this won’t be an easy task – Group A features Russia, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
Brazilians have always had a soft spot for the Qatari nation and the football fans there are expected to pack stadiums in order to support their team. This is particularly true given that Brazil is one of only a few countries whose nationals can actually boast global success on the international stage.
Fans in Brazil can watch all of the matches live on TV or online, as well as follow the progress of their national team using social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.
Neymar Jr. Retires from Brazilian National Team
Neymar Jr. Retires from Brazilian National Team
On Tuesday, Neymar Jr. announced on his social media platforms that he is retiring from the Brazilian national soccer team. The 27-year-old Santos forward made the announcement just hours before Brazil’s World Cup final match against Belgium.
“I want to announce that I will be retiring from the national team,” Neymar wrote on Instagram and Facebook. “Thank you for all your support over the years.”
Neymar has been a mainstay of Brazil’s World Cup squad since their debut in 1994, scoring 46 goals in 119 appearances. He was named captain of the national side in February 2017, but only managed to score one goal in six matches during the 2018 qualifying campaign. However, he was an ever-present figure at this year’s World Cup where Brazil reached their sixth consecutive final tournament.
Neymar has been widely tipped to win this year’s Ballon d’Or award, which is given to the world’s best player. He is also one of two players – alongside Argentina’s Lionel Messi – to have won five Copa America titles with different teams (Uruguay, Barcelona, Santos, Internacional and Brazil).
